I finally got around to updating the Blog sharing buttons today. I wasn’t happy with the first one I tried since it wasn’t rendering correctly on mobile devices. I did some research and liked the look of SumoMe as well as MashShare. For now, SumoMe is enabled, and I’m pretty happy with the way it looks.
The initial burst of energy for this blog hasn’t diminished, but it did get directed into other areas for a while. What have I been up to? Traveled to the Cook Islands and New Zealand in April – both amazing places that I loved. Launched a new product at my day job in June. Researched Northern California summer vacation spots outside of the general Silicon Valley area I already know well. Forced a Sony Playstation DualShock 4 controller to play nicely with Batman: Arkham City for Mac (required downloading a special file from the game publisher and manually copying it into the buried directory). And a few other obsessively researched projects that I’m sure I’m missing, in addition to normal life.
I’ve been wondering about general blogs that don’t necessarily serve a particular niche. Do they work? Does the audience lose interest if one subject gets favored over the other they’d hoped to read about that week? And how can an author pursue their passions without boring the readers? Category tags seem like a good way to start, so I’m going to make more of an effort to use them as I write certain posts (travel, technology, etc.) so filtering is effective.
